1991- The Start of a Dynasty
Ok guys- well, if you didn't know this about me, I love old sneakers. I love the design aspects of them, sure. Most of all though, they feel like a time capsule you can hold in your hand. They tell a story and will bring you back to a time that watching a documentary or reading a book can't. They serve as a stepping stone to where we've gotten to in modern fashion, and shouldn't be forgotten about. Let's talk about what was going on in 1991 and why it was significant.

Michael Jordan starts on the path of true goat status in 1991- the year of his first NBA championship. In 1991, Michael Jordan is seven years into his career with the bulls and already making a splash. Will Smith is rocking the Grape 5's on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, making his shoes synonymous with pop culture. He's become the first player in NBA history to win MVP, all-star MVP, and DPOY in one season. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen have a chip on their shoulder after losing in game seven to the Detroit Pistons (motor city bad boys!) in the 1990 championship. They get it back in 1991 against the Pistons, sweeping them in four games. This style shoe- the Jordan 6, is the shoe he wore to do that.

By the end of his career, he won six championships with the bulls and solidified himself as one of the most complete basketball players that's ever played. People often criticize Jordan in how he went about doing it. They say he could've been nicer, and easier to get along with. Fact of the matter is though, he did what he had to do to become one of- if not the best- to ever play the game.

(Side note! This jacket is available for sale in The Breezy Store. It is an original Motor City Bad Boys satin bomber jacket. While Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas were still with the Pistons, that was the nickname given to the team in the late 80's and early 90's. The name came from the team's aggressive, almost dirty play style)
